The first leg of the tour kicked off in January of 2010 and toured through Mother's Day, selling out shows from coast to coast. Tyler Perry's "Madea's Big Happy Family" quickly became the first of its kind within the urban play circuit to perform and sell out arenas, where typically multi-platinum selling rock, pop & R&B concerts play. Now 10 years later, 12 plays, 9 movies, 2 TV shows and one book in, Tyler Perry continues to do and do well what helped launch the mega mogul, multi-millionaire, man of many facets and talent's career-"Live Theater."
Tyler Perry's "Madea's Big Happy Family," was written, produced, directed by and stars Tyler Perry. The story focuses on a middle-aged single mother named Miss Shirley (performed on stage by Chandra Currelley-Young), who has just received a diagnosis of terminal cancer. With the help of Madea, she assembles her grown children (and their significant others) for one final reunion, during which loyalties are tested and unpleasant truths are spilled.
Tyler Perry's "Madea's Big Happy Family" features the talents of some of his most notable fan favorites including Cassi Davis and Palmer Williams, Jr. of "House of Payne," R&B singing sensation Cheryl "Pepsii" Riley and actress/singer Chandra Currelley-Young.
